Oh snap, is that an emerging new artist I hear? Why yes, yes it is! Grab your earphones and add her to your playlist because Tiffanie Malvo is about to set it off!  Who is Tiffanie? Glad you asked, grab a pen and paper, its notes time.

Jamaican born and raised, Tiffanie Malvo defines herself as “a talented artist” not solely dancehall, not solely reggae. A lyrically inclined deejay whose material is geared towards reality theme messages is how I define her. Her raspy, yet earthy; deep but refined tone has been compared to that of Tanya Stephens which she considers a great compliment. Though always around music, she got her feet wet at age 18 with the début of “Gimme Ganja” (2008) featuring father, reggae music veteran Anthony Malvo.  Side note, how exactly does one approach their father wanting to sing about ganja? Were you high?

In 2007 Malvo took a break from musical pursuits to study Human Resource Management at George Brown Collage in Toronto, Canada. With a degree under her belt, she returned to her true love, music.  This time fully emerging herself in the industry, recording songs “Own Money (2015)and “Mr. Wrong” (2016). Tiffanie, Tiffy, Tiff, seeing that you brought it up, who is this Mr. Wrong?  ……..While she would not say who he was, she mentioned the song was written in the studio with producer black pearl after reasoning with him about how hard it is to move on sometimes. Why do Mr. Wrongs always do it so right? Sigh. Things got major however when her unique sound traveled to Mexico on a mix tape that caught the ear of the iconic band major laser. They liked what they heard which led to the creation of “Set It Off” (2016), an upbeat dance song that is gaining her major traction in the industry.

While she appreciates the reception to her music thus far, she admits she wants it to be more.  But she finds reaching the masses her main obstacle. Limited airplay because disc jockeys have yet to catch on to her and the whole ‘female in the industry’ thing does not help either. Come on people, do I need to remind you that Nicki Minaj was once Onika, JLo was once just a girl on the block, and Beyoncé…., well Beyoncé was always Beyoncé, but you get the point, give new artistes a chance. No worries Tiffanie, people like winners, so just continue to win and the supporters will come.

But in the meantime between time, love keeps her going. Love? Yes love! For that Mr. Wrong guy? Nope, love for what she does; creating music. From ideas written on paper, to late night studio sessions, to finished song, to her favorite part of it all; you, her fans. Getting to perform for, entertain and reason with fans is the highlight of it all. And from watching her perform, one thing is clear. She is a natural, no doubt she was born to do this. In her own words, “Performing has been my ‘thing’ from childhood.” Recalling the formation of countless girl groups in prep and high school days. This is her dream. And team work is what’s making this dream work, as though she may not be a part of a girl group, she is a part of a team, Malvo Entertainment.  It’s a family affair comprised of her brothers and helmed by her father who is also her manager.

After working with Major laser, launching an EP for “Set It Off” and performing on Champions in Action there is no place to go but up. Next comes the video drop, tour with dad, a few stops here and there, then bam stardom! Songs in heavy rotation, TV interviews and headline performances. On Dat Note, I leave you with a bit of advice; Tiffanie, push through; music industry, catch up!
